What consequences come with distracted driving?

Often, people recognize the serious dangers associated with driving under the influence or reaching excessive speeds. Sadly, some people fail to realize that a seemingly minor distraction, such as a driver reaching for something on the floor, can cause a devastating crash. In Bowling Green, and cities around all of Kentucky, drivers should be aware of different distractions that can lead to an accident. Moreover, the victims of these collisions should not hesitate to firmly stand for their rights.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, distracted driving left 391,000 people with injuries throughout 2015. Sadly, these crashes also claimed the lives of 3,477 in the same year.  On top of physical pain due to accident injuries and emotional pain after losing a loved one, these accidents can also generate tremendous financial difficulties for victims and those they love. As one example, a family may face financial hardships due to lost wages, hospital bills, or physical therapy costs.

Unfortunately, drivers can become distracted very easily and there are all sorts of distractions that may pop up when someone is trying to operate a motor vehicle. For example, a cell phone may ring, something may fall on the floor, a driver may wish to change the radio station, or a driver may need to look at a map for directions, among other distractions. Unfortunately, when a driver takes his or her eyes off the road for even a small amount of time, they could cause an accident that upends the lives of many people.
