Even when damage seems minor, accident injuries can be serious

by | Feb 8, 2017 | car accidents

Motorists are perhaps safer on the today than ever before. Between technological advancements and legislative changes, efforts to improve safety on Kentucky roadways continue to expand and evolve.

For instance, as discussed in this article on car safety, cars today are manufactured and designed in ways that prioritize passenger protection. Everything from frame construction and crush zones to seat belts and airbags have been developed and improved to keep passengers alive in a collision.

Technological advancements have also improved road safety. Today, many cars have features that apply the brakes automatically, correct a car’s steering if it is drifting out of its lane and detect objects in a blind spot.

Lawmakers are also prioritizing safety by putting bans on distracted driving behaviors like texting and enacting laws that prohibit and penalize impaired driving.

However, despite these and other valuable efforts to improve safety, people can and do still get injured in car accidents. And while the damages suffered may not be as extensive or severe as the may have been just 10 or 20 years ago, people suffer injuries today that may not have needed treatment in previous years.

In other words, even though a person survives a crash that may have been fatal a decade ago, he or she can wind up with serious injuries that require emergency and/or ongoing medical care.

With all this in mind, we want to encourage accident victims to understand their right to take legal action against a negligent or reckless driver. Doing so can help victims collect money to treat and recover from their injuries. And in cases where the damage is catastrophic, the fact is that recovery can be lengthy and expensive. Pursuing compensation can be crucial in making sure victims get the care they need and deserve.
